Pond plant keeps falling over
« on: May 25, 2012, 05:42:19 AM »
One of my pond plants has grown like crazy and is a bit top heavy, anytime a breeze comes up over it goes. What are some suggestions to correct this? I thought about buying a heavier pot but a pot the size I need wouldn't be too cheap.
Thanks

2 things you can do. One, thin it out a tad and two, place a nice heavy rock in container bottom and repot.

When that happens to me, I divide & put the piece I'm keeping in a bigger pot.  I troll around trash time looking for plastic pots that get thrown out & have ended up using several of them for this purpose.  Sometimes the rim sticks up above the water level but eventually plants fill in around it.  Good luck.

I am thinking if your wind is mostly from the same direction you could use a plastic flower box ?

What we need are + shaped pots for grasses, rushes and such.  That would allow for a larger footprint at a reduced weight.

I was recently at my cousins' when they were having a landscaper plant a front garden with trees and large bushes. I was able to get some great large and durable plastic pots for my pond plants for free. Look around your neighborhood and see if anyone is doing any landscaping?
