Product of our labor
« on: August 05, 2012, 04:56:55 PM »
@O@  We finally got RAIN...1.20"...AND it cooled off.  It was a mere 87* yesterday and 83* today.

We have been 100* or more 16 of the last 20 days.  Two of those were 98* and 99*.

BUT...the good news is...look what the long hot days produced   o(:-)  It is in a one gallon ice cream bucket.

This is probably the biggest of the 75 or 80 melons that we counted.  This is the first year for us to plant the garden in our back yard and it has done great.

I love seeing pictures of your beautiful garden.  You must spend a lot of time watering.  Our melons are much smaller than yours and the raccoons usually beat us to them.

I'm impressed!!!  What big melons you grow!  :D ;)  With all your heat you must have to water plenty to get great end results!

I agree with Annette :) Zone 5/6 here just not enough sun and growing time :(  I have tried the Heirloom seeds, Moon & Stars Watermelon in the greenhouse! The last try one got about the sz. of a big baseball,  at least I tried, lol

I'm zone 6 also and I plant directly in the garden.  This spring was a little warmer than usual and I did plant the last week of April.  I have planted Hale's Best for many years and they always produce for me, usually just not this big.

That looks like a very vigorous garden.  How exciting to have such a bountiful crop.  That rain had to be refreshing.
