What Lilies Are On Your Wish List This Spring ?
« on: February 14, 2007, 10:40:22 AM »
I don't have much I want except for a few species lilies I once had and lost for my hybridizing efforts. I am still working with my own crosses and like the direction I have been going with them. It'd be nice to do some back crosses to the species lilies to further develop the traits I find desirable.

A couple I would like are N. 'Blue Anemone', N. ampla, N. elegans, N. mexicana (only for hardy breeding purposes). A good strong yellow tropical waterlily with a moderate spread would also be nice. I have N. Trailblazer but it tends to get huge before it blooms for me.

Of course I would love to attain more of the Charles Winch lilies that Craig imported but they are on hold from what I understand by request of the family.

So what is on your list of acquisitions for this year?

Cheers,
Sean

I need to see what I have left and take care of them first...so may not get any new ones this year.   An old stand by that I no longer have and will probably have to get is Green Smoke.   I also no longer have Golden West or Allene.

Of the new lilies I have seen pictures of...the one that I love the most is Pink Flamingo...congrats, Craig!

N. Laura Frase. Any suggestions on a good dealer? That is one of the prettiest lily's I've ever seen.

I don't believe the market has been flooded with knockoffs of N. 'Laura Frase'. I am sure if anyone developed one just as pretty they would have named it themselves.

I do not know how trustworthy this company is as they are not part of the Truly Named WGI © Directory of Participating Members but they claim to carry the plant.

I just want a pond! A real one, not a container or box!

Oh Carlos, are you sure you won't come to Dallas??? Please?!!!

As for new lilies, anything that Craig has hybridized or imported is sure to be fabulous! But I need a pond first!!!

GAJen, I have a Laura Frase that I believe came from FAN. If I remember correctly (that's a big IF), Lorenzo also has one that was shipped from FAN. I did notice that I moved mine, so I'd be happy to see if there is a start in a few weeks. :)

I have lily fever I've said that 100's of times lately. Dang if you all aren't about to convince me to build an above ground just for lily's. I'd love some spares JC.

I'm looking forward to a new batch from the Winch family to prep for the iwgs competition.  Me. Winch's daughter mentioned they were planning to send five for the show, but she didn't give me the names, except I think one named 'Camembert' will be included.

I suggested she fill a box and not just send the five, but oddly enough she didn't reply.<g>

As luck has it, there shouldn't be a problem with LF knock-offs as it is a sterile lily.  It is a shame that only sterile lilies seem to be safe from the seed mongers.

If all the tropicals make it through the winter indoors, I have almost enough, more than I have room for until I get that tropical lily pond up and built this spring! I would still like a really deep blue, maybe Panama Pacific, and maybe one other tropical of some very intense color.
Please see my 300 gallon pond and my container ponds at:

Hi Sheila,

Panama Pacific is a medium purple with pinkish undertones, not blue at all. If you are looking for a deep purplish/blue, I would suggest N. Director Moore. It is purple but with a vibrant royal blue overtone in the sun. One of my favorites and one of the deepest colored tropicals I have ever seen.

Not many on the list this year. We want to try to get moved into a place of our own this spring so I really don't want to add any more right now.
I've bought Lilypons twice now. Once, it wasn't Lilypons and second time it simply disappeared from my kiddie pool never to be seen again. ::) I would like to try to get it again, maybe third time will be the charm. ;) I also would like to get my hands on Pink Ribbon when it becomes available but I have a feeling that won't be this year. :)

I got Lilypons from both Marilyn C and Jean Niemi and Jean had told me it bloomed for her but once. I never got it to bloom, gave it to a friend to grow out in their back yard and a raccoon got it. I think the one from Marilyn just put up masses of pads for me, nothing more so I traded it for a tropical something, I cant remember now who I traded it to either.

I would like to try a few crosses with N. mexicana and N. pygmaea. I know that this cross has been done many times before but you never know what you get till you try it.

A profusely blooming yellow tropical does sound perfect.

For me though, I want to start off the year with a Colorado. Not exotic I know, but time I had that prolific peach!

If everyone survives and was correctly labeled, I'm full for Hardies, unless there are any more ponds on my horizon.

I think the two Tropicals I bought are dead and if they are, I'd like several easy to grow, lots of blooms in a small pot/pond Tropicals for my greenhouse pond.

It isn't very big 2' x 6' but I've seen how Sean crams them in so I know it can be done.

I like deep rich colors. I'd like at least one with colored pads. I have no clue.....

I would like to have one of everything. i have a 1000 acre pond at my door step and would like to fill it from shore to shore with lilies. :)

i, have in the past put some spare tropicals in tubs a few feet from shore and they never did good because of the rough water caused by the boaters. i did have one of the local DEP guys get so excited when he saw a blue lily, thinking it was a hardy.

I would really like some of the winch lilies when they come available.

I have some new hybrids this year that look promising. some with solid maroon pads which look striking. we'll see what happens.
