When a friend first acquired Winch's 'Daniel' I got a tuber that I grew out? I killed it trying to propagate but not before I got seed from it. I never wrote dates on the bag but I think I am getting some germination of very old seed, maybe 8 - 10 years old?

This is some seed I am trying to germinate that was 'Star of Siam' x 'Daniel' Kept in the crisper drawer of the fridge for years in a bubble envelope. I have decided that water changes every two days should be sufficient. If these ones are truly germinating, I will need to get some light on them. I have them on a shelf in the kitchen with minimal natural light getting through from the patio. We are getting rain each day so it has been cooler than normal. I can place them by the living room window but the temps drop significantly there as the patio door is always open.

Cheers,
Sean

The original batch does have some larger seed but not as many as you see here. I am wondering if the viable seeds have swelled to four times their size for germination?
I have counted 4 that appear to be sprouting but no hastate ot filiform leaf yet. I guess for three days after over 8 years dormancy, this is a good sign.

Congrats & I hope they do well for you.

(I may have 8 year old food hiding in my fridge but no seeds  ;) )

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

Sean, how are your seeds doing now? Hopefully there is some growth. Post pics, if possible.

These ones stalled so I will try again with the remaining seed and actually pot them up this time. I think the agitation of the water when I shook it up daily killed them.
I have some old Minuta and old Micrantha seed that has germinated and will be ready to pot up soon.
