Aplocheilus lineatus...
« on: February 26, 2007, 11:13:00 AM »
I just bought 4 of these at Petco, 3 males and a female.
For relatively inexpensive fish, they are VERY colorful and fun to watch.
Been in and out of Petco for about a week, watching these fish.
No one seemed to be buying them so yesterday, I broke down and bought some.
I do not regret it, very fun fish! o( o( o( o(

AKA: Golden Panchax.:cool3:

This spring once it is warm enough, they are going in the pondsai. 8)

Beautiful fish O0
Love that glistening green color.

They would make a wonderful addition to my aquarium
Tonight I will call and see if I can find some.

Tink, well I know what 'Jaws' my giant Wakin Goldfish had for lunch yesterday...
All 4 of the Aplocheilus lineatus.  :(  :(  :(  :(

When I got home yesterday...the were all gone,
except for one little chunk of skull at the bottom,
getting cleaned up by the dwarf pleco. :'( :( >:(

So no more excuses...'Jaws' is going in the mud pond at work this spring,
an offering to the Osprey and Heron Gods. lol
I hate that fish. >:(-
Also, have quite a few empty aquariums out in the garage...yardsale finds.
Going to start up the 30 gallon for more Aplocheilus lineatus.
That'll be this weekends project. 8)

Poor Jaws..he doesn't know it's not nice to eat the new guys  {:-P;;  I'm sorry you lost your new fish.
I hope the Heron God spares him. I wish I lived closer. I would give him a home just to control the multitude of fry every spring.

THats horrible!  I had a big tank given to me by my brother.. very nice he made it out of oak, sits on a huge oak pedastal with storage shelves etc. .. something to be really proud of.. BUT with it came 3 year old africian chiclids big ones..... pretty fish.. very amusing to watch.. but they were like paranta.  I went to cincy and brought home two beautiful white sharks in a cooler, put them in when I got home and it took those chiclids a matter of hours to eat them and they were big fish.  I also brought home some pretty white snails and that night I keep hearing something  peeking on the  glass sides of the aquarium... those chicilids would take those snails and charge them and punt them into the glass.. they were also dead very quickly.  You didnt dare stick your hand down in the water.... I never added any more fish till the last chiclid died.  I really need to start it back up and get rid of the fake godlfish on sticks I have in it :) .

Joyce its almost yard sale time here... I find so many things!  I am surprised at the people that take up the ponding/gardening hobby only to adondon it quickly.. I so love those people :)

Ah, the memories..

In 1950 my family acquired an aquarium.  We started with guppies (not the pretty ones available now, just the old minnow looking ones).  We were all entranced by the live birth of the young guppies. They were soon followed by a catfish, Red Swordtails, Convict Barbs, Zebras, Black Mollies, Neon Tetras, and many others lost to memory.  Over the next 6 years one by one the population decreased.  Eventually, there was only one fish left. A huge Convict Barb.  One day I dumped him out and that was the end to our  tropical fish endeavor.

Oh yes, I remember those days too.  We bought two spotted catfish at a pet shop and were told they would get along fine with all of our other fish.  Next day, no other fish. >:(-

Hey Joyce,
Wow,sorry to hear about Jaws eating your new fish. He definately needs a new home.
Guess what? I just got home from a business trip and had to stop at petsmart, and they did indeed have some of those. Not all of them were very green though. The girl said that different batches are more green than others. There were two that looked like your's. very green! They are now here at home with me waiting for the big plunge.
Thanks,

Steve

Cool fish, I wonder if they would stand out any better than the White Clouds I have in my pond.
My heated display pond doesn't get very cold outside, I bet they could naturalize as well as the White Clouds have.

Cheers,
Sean
