After several days of 50* and above (they have spoiled me)  :) the weatherman says we are going back to cold weather and maybe even some snow tonight and tomorrow!  >:(  Maybe if we all think enough positive thoughts, spring will come early. Come on everyone, think positive thoughts! Sunshine and sunglasses!  8)

{:-P;; You do not think positive thinking will work, Bob?  ;D Oh well, I am trying.
It was a sunny 67* on Tuesday and today we have rain all day with sleet this morning and our high has been 36*. I am ready for winter to say goodbye.  :)

Reflections of last summer.

@O@ 6 weeks! That's not bad! We had 1 inch of snow last night!  It was pretty but glad it is melting now.  :) I think some people still have 10 weeks to go!  :(
Oh well, until spring is here, remember 2014!

{nono}  Bob, that is not what your pond is for!  lol

We had about a half inch of snow blanketing the ground yesterday morning, but it was gone by mid afternoon.  ;D

We are another day closer to spring!

Hopefully all of those in the northeast blizzard are doing okay. Praying that they are well, and their electricity is on or will be back on quickly.
As we tread through winter, and long for spring, here is a pic of Bolivia for you to enjoy.

I am not sure if I will have Bolivia available this year, Bob, but will let you know.
It has been a sunny day and 48* today's high. Not a bad winter's day. Tomorrow is going to be 51* but will be raining in the morning. Cold returning again this weekend.
Keep dreaming of spring! Enjoy Bull's Eye while you do.

Julles, I have seen Green Smoke and it is a great looking lily.

After a couple of nice days we are back to cold weather and once again the fires are burning in the woodstoves. The groundhog saw his shoadow I hear, so 6 more weeks of winter. I am wondering, he is an older groundhog by now, so has anyone checked his eyes? I am hoping that his eyesight might be failing and he is mistaken about his shadowl
Till spring, keep dreaming of spring planting!

No worries about freezing temperatures here in this part of the PNW lately.  I have been overwintering my lotus in an unheated greenhouse.  There were some freezing temperatures earlier so I wrapped it up and I'll have to wait and see if it survived.  Still many months away.....

I have my tropical lilies bagged up in the basement but I need to check them for mold or drying out.

But crocuses have been blooming. :-)

Why do you have your lotus inside?

The lotus is in a large pot and not in a pond environment so I couldn't sink it to the bottom of a pond for protection.  Instead, I am hoping that by combining the protection of wrapping the pot with the shelter of the unheated greenhouse, the pot would not freeze (at least below the surface).  (I have used this technique for overwintering greens.)  Occassionally, we can get extended periods of freezing weather which have resulted in some very frozen pots but it is looking unlikely this year.  The greenhouse does not get much sun at this time of year (combination of lack of sun angle and lack of sun) so it isn't much warmer than the outside.  However, it won't be long before the sun angle is more favorable but it is a matter of having sun.  I hope this answers your question.  Sorry for straying from Frank's pretty pixs.

I'm in Zone 5 and my lotus are in maybe 14 inches of water (total), I haven't lost any yet.
Knock on wood.

Good to hear, Bob, they should coninue  to do okay as long as the tubers are below freezing. My tubers are sitting above ground in tubs outside in a cold frame but I am in zone 7.
