New thought to GaJen subject....
« on: April 09, 2007, 04:53:40 PM »
I have no idea what went on either (don't mail me, I did not say anything to Jen or Jerry because I don't know what it is even about) but would like to make a friendly suggestion. We all need to keep in mind that there are new people logging on to our forum often so any post could be making a first impression of our forum on someone. My suggestion is when you're posting something try to consider how a newcomer would read that. I know if I logged on as a new person and read something that seemed off color I don't believe I would think highly of it, no matter how it was 'meant' and probably wouldn't log on again. So I say if you decide to post something then think it's something you wouldn't want your child to read DON'T post it!!! Keeping that in mind will often make you give something a second thought before you say it, this is true whether on this forum or in life in general.
Please do not bash me as prudish or anything...been there (bashed, not actually prudish) :D.......I'm just trying to give our posting here a different perspective.

Here here Cath! I couldnt agree more.
I often feel people should go back and edit their posts. I am constantly shaking my head when I read many posts on this forum.

Cheers,

I posted yesterday that maybe only pornographic or such should be deleted here but can a girl change her mind?? :-\

You are absolutely right Cath......  This is why I think so highly of you!

We get carried away thinking that this is OUR place to hang out and forget that others are reading things that we post .
This goes with personal info.  Don't post unless you want a total stranger knowing it.

This should be a clean, friendly place and we should not post anything that we wouldn't want a young person reading.

This should apply towards everything said.... if we know that some might be offended, don't post it.    We should be courteous and respect others opinions.

I agree with your point but have to mention that we see things on TV,  hear things in the lyrics of songs
on the radio, or see inappropriate stuff on bumper stickers all the time that are far more offensive to me than what was said here. Having raised 2 sons and helped raise 3 other children, I didn't put them in the closet so they wouldn't hear offensive stuff. I tried to explain what was said and why I didn't agree with the content. I'm not saying that certain things weren't off limits but didn't get particularly hyper when I realized they had been exposed to things of which I didn't approve.

It is very hard to control what is said by each and every person in such a large diverse group of people because we don't all think alike. It seemed that it could have been enough for the offended person/people to let the moderators know that there was something they didn't approve of, let them make the decision about the measures to be taken and then forget it. There is no reason to berate/PM/tell off/criticize the people who may have posted the so called offensive words. The final decision about our behavior in the end is up to the moderators. Whose behavior was more offensive in this situation? Had we let Sean and Jerry handle this, we wouldn't have lost a good member of our group and left such a sour taste in her mouth. And the rest of us wouldn't have our tails in a knot. If the offended people tried as hard to post information, pictures and help people as much as Jen, our forum would be even better than it is.

If i had not deleted several of jen's posts and MINE, we don't know what would have happened.
We will never know.  It may not have aroused anyones ire, or it might have.  I made the best decision I could.
I recently banned a new member from Pakistan, the source of our attacks on this site.  The guys "geography" was very suspect.  I had to make a decision.  i did!   We will never know if this guy was on the up and up.  if he wasn't, the cost would kill us and perhaps end  this site. Again, I had to make a decision. I did.  As Harry Truman said, the buck stops here!

I have no clue what was posted but Jerry and Sean do not want certain subjects on this forum and we will have to live with that.

Esther I agree that no one should have got nasty about posts and overlook things unless they were REALLY out of control.
Believing in the christian faith, there are things on here that I don't like, but so be it...... I have also posted things that shouldn't have been posted.

As far as radio and television, we know what to expect when we watch Playboy TV vs HGTV.

You make a great point here Bonnie, I have mentioned to people a few times that if they want a free for all, there are other forums that they would be more comfortable at for such topics. I can think of one in particular where they have one board where they do nothing but bash others. If that's your taste, then I welcome you to post there.

This forum is for all of us but I would like to remind everyone of one point. Jerry solely foots the bill for this forum and I administer it freely of my time. The final decision on all points is ours alone. If people do not agree with the way we moderate the forum, they do not need to participate. I am kinda hurt that Jen has left and am taking it a bit more personally than I probably should but I made every effort to keep her here. I felt like we were friends. Loosing her as a contributing member is a major blow to this forum. I see she has moved on to contribute at another forum that is shared by a few of our other members and I wish her well with her new posting location.

Cheers,
Sean

Sean is right. We did all we could to keep her. I even said i was equally culpable.

I think it's time we drop the topic.
