PLEASE REMEMBER THE TROOPS!
« on: April 13, 2007, 11:25:08 AM »
No matter what your view is, please don't forget the troops.

Heard on the news last night that many are no longer getting care pkgs or even letters...... some feel that we have forgotten them. :'(

One gentleman's Mother was on the news and said that he is the only one receiving pkgs out of 40 guys in his unit, also they get letters every day from boys and girls that say they don't even have toilet paper!! >:(-

The media sure doesn't help.  They make us look like bad guys.  Sure the war is a mess, but they are OUR boys and desrve our support,

Our Boys, Our Girls, Our Sons and Daughters.  Some are Mothers, Fathers,  Brothers, Sisters and some even Grandparents. We must not forget them.  Like Bonnie said, lets not forget them.

Its ashame that they can't even get their care packages from loved ones.  >:(

My grandson who is all of 24 now was there during the first votting on special opps and he called home to ask for long johns and wool socks. He was in the Marine's and his Platoon went there from Hawiiee and they were freezing. Our gov. couldn't even supply warm clothing for them? Now that's just wrong. Mike was going to make it his carier untill there and Afganastan. He doesen't even want to talk about it yet.

Bonnie,
Thank you for posting this. We signed up and requested 2 soldiers.
This project will be very special to our hearts because our son was practically stalked by a Marine recruiter. He had our kid so brainwashed about the Marines being the best thing Quinn (son) could do after graduation this spring. Perhaps if there wasn't a war going on right now it could have been, but the present situation was so scary to us as his parents. He was told he would get tons of money 'up front' and 'while serving', EVERYTHING he needed would be supplied for him the ENTIRE time he was enlisted (including shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, soap, towels, clothing, we're talking EVERYTHING!!!). Quinn thought it sounded like a dream. It would have been, for the recruiter, because he would have 1 more recruit to his credit and once Quinn would have realized he was strung along it would have been tough for him.
Fortunately between our prayers, our research, plus a co-worker of my husband who had been a recruiter and gave Quinn a reality check about what he could expect for income and furnished supplies, Quinn has chosen to go to college.
So knowing what we do now about what soldiers actually have furnished to them and thier desire for correspondence we will consider it a privilege to do this.

We got our soldiers names yesterday.
Bonnie, thanks again for bringing this to our attention. We're looking forward to doing this. We're making a store run this evening to get care pkg. items.

Thanks for posting that, Bonnie. I really would like to do this & get my kids involved in it.

What goes into the care packages, though? The adoption form says: "Care packages do not have to be expensive and you can put together your own".

We used to send them to my brother in the Navy, but that was so many years ago that the only thing I remember is making tons of cookies.

Dig around on the Soldier's Angel site. I saw what was included in the packs that a person can order from them. But I sent an email to my soldier and asked him what he would prefer. I suspect it can vary from person to person of course but also it may vary depending on where your soldier is stationed. I think mine is in the navy but don't know where he is. I sure hope he responds. I'll try to come up with something for a "care package" even if I don't hear. I'm sure anything I send can be used by somebody wherever my soldier is. They could even give it to the local people there.

I saw where the Iraq guys need sand scarves and cooler ties. I thought if my guy turned out to be there I would make him some. I found instructions for both and each are very easy for even a beginning  seamstress.
