Wish me luck...having LASIK surgery today
« on: April 10, 2007, 09:01:47 AM »
I'll be away from the board until Thursday.  I'm a little nervous having my eyes cut on, but the end result will be worth it, I'm sure.

I'd be nervous too but I hear nothing but good results from friends who have had it done.  Good luck to you.

Good luck and to a quick and speedy recovery time.  From what I've heard you won't regret it.

Well they have been doing it for 20 years now, not new technology anymore. I have considered it myself. Probably the fastest surgery there is too.

Best luck with your surgery Brian.

I had it done six years ago, and it was one of the best things I've ever done for myself.  I was legally blind without corrective lenses and had worn glasses from the age of five.  My vision had never, in my entire life, been 20/20.  Took less than 10 minutes, I sat up and could see the clock on the wall!  I had it done on a Friday, and was driving on Saturday and back to work Monday, no problems.  You'll be so happy!

Thank you for all of the well wishes and your experiences.  It went so well, that I was able to come back to work today.  I am gettting ready to leave for my follow up visit.
It is amazing how well I see without my glasses or contact lenses!!  I told my mother that I had never spent $2600 in 15 minutes before!!  I can tell already that it is  worth every penny!!!

Glad to hear it went well.

My boys get tired of wearing glasses, they've wore them before they turned one.  Its from being premature.  They've had alot of surgeries on their eyes.  I told them one day, they will be able to have that fixed, and won't have to wear them maybe.  We tried the contact thing last year, they got them in at the doctors office and couldn't went they got home.  One of my boys loved the contacts he said everything looked much clearer.  But he couldn't get them in and out, so I told them I think we just need to wait a little longer.

I don't wear contacts or glasses, so I was of little help to them getting the contacts in.  I could put them in for them though.

I am glad to hear it went so well!  My 17 year old wants to get it done when he is old enough, too.  Maybe if he starts saving now.   ;)

I do still wear reading glasses for all the fine print but I guess somethings you can't get away with as you get older.  >:(-

Viv,
There was absolutely no pain when they did my right eye, but the left, there was pain during the cutting of the cornea flap, but only due to the pressure they were putting on my eye, not the cutting itself.  It only lasted about 3-4 seconds, though and I have a high tolerance for pain so it wasn't bad.  After the procedure,  the discomfort was like I had been at the beach and had sand blown into my eyes.  I went home, and took a 3 hour nap as instructed, and when I awoke, my right eye felt totally normal with no discomfort.  My left eye felt like it had an eye lash in there, but that's all.  By the next morning, it was almost normal, and by that afternoon, felt totally fine.  There is some inconvienence involved.  There are quite a few follow up visits...day after surgery, one week out, one month out and six months out and the eye drops.  I have to put in an antiboitic drop, a steroid drop and an artificial tear drop in four times a day and wait at least five minutes in between each drop so I don't wash out the previous one.  That is for the first week, then it is just the artificial tear for the next three to four weeks.

I would highly recommend it to anyone that is a candidate for it.
