Should I or shouldn't I
« on: August 10, 2007, 05:54:41 PM »
  A friend of my daughter's is moving and has a couple of 1 YO Koi that she needs to get rid of.About 8".
  I have a 450 gal above ground preform with 6 comets/shubunkins  3-5".
  I know that Koi don't stop growing to adapt to their environment like goldies do, but could I accomodate 1 koi for a couple of years in this size pond?
  TIA for any info.
  Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Being honest..
If you were going to keep one temporarily- meaning a month or so, maybe.
A couple of years.. NO.

Imagine having a VERY small cage which is just fine for a Chihuahua.
 Then you get a Great Dane puppy and want to keep it in there for two years. :(
(just using that as an example but there are other reasons besides growth that koi need larger ponds.. better filtration, deeper depths, etc.)

  Yep. I was pretty sure, but had to ask.
  I told them a few places that might buy her fish from her.
   Thanks, Nancy

You could always build a bigger pond to accomidate the koi  {:-P;;
The irony of life is that, by the time you're old enough to know your way around, you're not going anywhere
