"Stars of the Lawrence Welk Show" again
« on: July 22, 2007, 07:54:27 PM »
I'll be playing for the "Stars of the Lawrence Welk Show" this Saturday in Lancaster Pa.   They hire local musicians; I have the alto sax, clarinet, flute book.

This year's troupe is Mary Lou Metzger, Jack Imel, Joe & Chris Feeney and Tom Netherton.

Lot of playing, but is fun, pays great and the audiences really like the show.

Wow, talk about  your age here! I remember watching the LW show on Saturday night, had the pop corn in the bowl and  sat your self down in front of the old TV.Joe Finney, the guy that played the accordant, and an older man that could really play the piano. I do hope you have some photos, would love too see them again.

Man, did i hate the Lawrence Welk show, especially LW himself, "Ah One, Ah Two" , And those stupid Bubbles!!!  What a dork!

That is, untill the Lennon sisters came on...WOW!  remember "Allegheny moon"???  Wow!

Of course the rest of the show was boring as H***.   But when the girls came on, it was GREAT!

I think some of them still perform in Branson, Mo.  Anyone up for a Lennon trip???  Reedman, ever accompany the sisters????

Jerry,

Can't really get pictures - we're onstage with them.

Lorraine,

Myron Floren was the accordian player.  He died last year.

Johns,

The Lennon Sisters never go on these road shows.  Ana Cani the latin singer still looks pretty nice though  o(:-) (not on this tour though).  The stars are based in Branson like you said.

I must admit that as a kid growing up, I hated the Lawrence Welk Show.

We watched it every Saturday (I think it was Saturday?) night.  My Aunt and Uncle lived straight across the street from us.  Uncle Paul didn't like Joe Feeney and when he started to sing "Unk" headed to the kitchen for a snack.  I always jumped up in the window and waved to him.  Great memories.

Three years ago my Mom and I took a bus trip to Branson and went to see their show.  I really enjoyed it.  The Lennons were there, but not the original group.

Have a great evening!

Karen

p.s.  I played clarinet and oboe in the high school band.  Don't have enough wind to even play a scale anymore.

Ahh, I'm sorry to hear he passed on. I guess most of them are now up in age, but I still liked the show, good clean entertainment. Not to much of that anymore.

Way to go Reedman!!!!!!! I know you'll enjoy it. My son did a gig with them several years ago. He and his wife are mostly Jazz but do a lot of big bad also. It was so cool that they brought in Jon's drum and Ingrid's horn and played Amazing Grace at the first of Dh's memorial service, and then whaled out a beautiful rendition of When the saints go marching in at the end. It was a great supprise!!!!!   Sorry didn't mean to steal your thread :(
I'm just happier outside!
