Now it's my turn to ask for prayers/thoughts
« on: August 04, 2007, 09:33:25 AM »
My MIL is in the ICU in the hospital, with an advanced case of pneumonia.  She has been very sick for weeks, but her foolish doctors could find nothing wrong with her.  She's about 70, and had a fever and lethargy for weeks.  My FIL finally took her to the ER night before last, and with a chest x-ray they discovered she had advanced pneumonia.  Hello, how could her doctors miss this?  She is not responding to treatment, and this morning she was totally unresponsive, unaware of her surroundings.   They have now inserted a big tube in her to pump in as much antibiotics in as short amount of time as they can.  :'(

Barb,
As much as we would like to think doctors are always on top of things, they miss the picture sometimes. I'm so sorry aout your MIL. Will be praying.

I don't know which is worse, having someone you love be sick but then knowing that this should have been diagnosed sooner. Sorry you all have to go through this and hope she begins to respond soon and makes a great recovery.

Thank you, everyone.  Unfortunately she passed away last night.  Tests came back, and showed she also possibly had TB, at the very least the bacteria was TB related.  She also had septicemia (sp?), a full-body infection.  We went to see her yesterday afternoon, it was just terrible, she was pretty much in a coma with her eyes open.  At least she isn't suffering anymore.  All the meds they put her on actually made her worse literally overnight, but I suppose they had to do it because they needed to get her illness under control. Her regular doctor who failed to diagnose this is actually also head of the pulmonary (lungs) department of the hospital. He'd last seen her Monday in his office, and just told her to come back again in a week, that was week five of her illness he'd been seeing her.  Oddly enough, something similar happened to my Uncle-in-law several weeks ago.  Some doctors just shouldn't be an MD.

Oh Barb, how terribly sad.  I am so sorry.  We put so much trust in our doctors, I can't imagine how that could have happened.

Take care,
Karen

I'm sorry, Barb. Your MIL's story makes me mad, cuz my Mom is also (albeit slowly) being killed by her Dr's. It's infuriating. I really am sorry for you and your family.
