We've had lots of butterflies this year. I've seen various kinds of Swallowtails and almost every other kind of butterfly that is native around here. The Fritillaries are currently swarming my mint plants by the back deck. Just this morning, when I went outside to feed my box turtle, I saw a HUGE yellow swallowtail and was berating myself for not seeing it a little sooner so I could have run for the camera.
It had landed on the bush by the turtle tank and I scared it by approaching. It didn't hang around after I scared it. :'(
I see Monarchs and Viceroys every year, but one year, the Monarchs chose the trees in our front yard to rest in overnight while they were migrating. That was a sight I had never seen before...trees almost completely covered with Monarchs.
I wish I had had a camera then.
