Witch Hazel--feedback pros and cons

Does anyone have any opinions on a witch hazel bush?  I wondered about planting one...they bloom here in the winter supposedly with very fragrant blooms.  Is it a nice plant, or one that just looks like a giant mistake?   :P  Any input is welcome!!

I wish I had room for one. They have nice branch structure, do bloom in winter and are fragrant. They are rather more like a small tree, at least the ones I have seen, than a shrub.

I like them, and cut the branches and bring them in when they are blooming.
Give them room, at least a 10 x10' space. (8:-)

I have a Chinese Witch Hazel which I have had for maybe 8 years now.  They are slow growing so buy as big as you can afford.  The scent is lovely in winter

Nope, not yet, I've been so busy this last two weeks I haven't had time to browse the catalogs for one.  But I will be looking seriously this week.  I AM surprised that they grow so slow, that's good in a way, it won't become a nuisance.
