Yes Jerry.  Thanks for asking.  We got back very late last Monday from Greece.  We spent about 12 days in Israel; visited Petra in Jordan one day and then left our tour group and visited in Greece for about 3 days.  We had a wonderful time.  We hit most of Israel from the coast, up to the north and then down to the gulf of Aqaba.  We arrived in Tel Aviv, toured Caeserea, the aquaducts, Mt. Carmel, Valley of Armageddon, Nazareth, Cana, Sea of Galilee, Mt. of Beatitudes, Capharnaum, Beth Saida, the En Gev, the Jordan river and valley, Beth Shean, Qumran, Caeserea Philippi, Tel Dan, Golan Heights, Masada, the Dead Sea, the Red Sea, Jerusalem, the Temple Mount, Hezekiah's tunnel etc......  Here are just a few photos of some 3,000 that the three of us took.

Here's a view of the northwest side of the Sea of Galilee from a mountain top above the city of Tiberias.  The mount of the beatitudes is located on the north sidel.  It was pretty late in the evening when I took this photo.

Jordan River

Ancient ruins at Beth Shean

Cave at Qumram where the dead sea scrolls were found

Much of the land is producing a staggering amount of fruit & produce.  It's really quite mind boggling how they have turned so much wilderness areas into productive land.  The first photo below is of a date orchard with what I believe are citrus in the foreground.  The second photo is of a banana plantation.  We saw banana plantations nearly everywhere.  You name the fruit and they likely grow it.

The Wailing Wall (west side of the Temple Mount)

Hezekiah's tunnel.  A wet 30-40 minute trek through this tunnel carved through solid rock in order to bring water into the old city of Jerusalem.

The Temple Mount as viewed from the Mount of Olives.

The Garden Tomb

The area believed by some to be Golgotha, located just outside of the garden tomb.  If this is Golgotha then Jesus would have been crucified in the area that is now a bus terminal and parking lot.

Masada, a high mount where several hundred Jews reportedly committed suicide rather than submit to capture by the Romans.

View from Masada down at the ancient ruins of the Roman encampment that was located there during the three year siege of Masada.

Romans finally gained entry into Masada by building this earth-filled ramp.  On the ramp they had their war machines of catapults and rams.

Found inside Masada were these large boulders that the Romans used in their catapults.

Once inside Jordan we toured Petra.

SPECTACLAR !  Wonderful photos, glad I asked.
No one wanted the place in the 40s, now of course it is very sought after.  It was a lot of so called un -agrable land and swamps.

Hi Mikey:

Did you also go to Ein Gedi?  I remember hiking up Masada (June early morning and that nearly killed me!!!), then someone told me about the lift.  Pretty amazing mossaics are still up there.  The other thing that empressed me is how far the Dead Sea has receeded, which is evident at Masada.  Did you got o Bethleham too to see the patriarch tombs and the manger/church of where Christ was born.

We didn't go into any of the Palestinian "controlled" territories for reasons of safety and that would include Bethlehem.   We instead went to a Shepherd's field overlooking Bethlehem.

We visited the national park in the Ein Gedi.  We saw this Ibex feeding on leaves in this low-lying tree that it had climbed.

The area was filled with many caves.  This is the area that David hid out in while hiding from King Saul.

In the same area we hiked up to "David's Falls".

Israeli law requires that school kids on outings must have an armed guard with them.  We saw several groups of kids and always nearby was an armed guard......usually with a fully automatic weapon rather than this WWII vintage rifle that this man was carrying.

Welcome back and thanks for sharing the photos...looks like you had nice weather which always helps...it's great to visit an area where historical sites are measured by millenia rather than decades.

Welcome home Mike!  Your detailed photos show you had a fabulous trip.  Thanks for sharing such beautiful sites.

Are you feeling the jet lag still?  I just came back from China yesterday and I was wide awake last night and sleepy all day today :-\

Glad you're home safe and sound.

My sleep schedule is still off but it's not bad.  China!  Tell us about your trip to China.  My foster brother has been to both China and Taiwan and he enjoyed both countries although he never got used to the pushing in the big cities of China.  He said Taiwan was more westernized.

Our son is slowly putting his photos on-line.  He took over a thousand photos and so far he has only put up photos of day #1.  The link to his photos is here: http://www.israel2007.dphoto.com/#/

Hi Mike,  I was able to view some photos on your son's website....very nicely done.  Still haven't finished though and will get back to it when I get a chance.  Somebody has a good eye for details!  ;)

I like the program he uses to show the photos.
