I have something they sell here as "feather rock" which is a very light form of lava rock.  Mine is as sharp as glass and I used cut sections of extra liner to place beneath it to protect my liner.

The only thing I know about liners floating due to high ground water is that I've read that people building ponds in such areas either build a sump pump into the ground to pump out extra water or dig a trench filled with gravel to bleed/leach the water away.

I bet you have the same type of man made stone as I do.  If you do not wear gloves when handling my boulders you will wind up with razor cuts and shards on your hands and fingers.

The ground water under my pond is not from a spring, it's from rainfall leaching through the clay/shale subsoil.

Thanks for your reply.  Other suggestions are welcomed.

My largest feather lava rock was a boulder and weighed about 90lbs.  I thought it would look cool sitting on a wide section of my plant shelf that was located in about 12" of water.  With both of us wearing leather gloves to protect our hands, my son and I lifted the rock placing it into the pond.  As we slowly lowered the rock to the shelf it floated away lol  A 90lb floating boulder..... >:(- lol

Wow! $500 for a real rock!!  :o :o :o

I remember when we first moved into our newly built neighborhood we found many rocks in our yard that we didn't want.  We rolled them into wagons and wheel barrels to the creek next to the end of the street.  Don't tell no one...everyone dumped boulder size and smaller rocks into the creek sides. :-X

Wishing I saved those rocks now

I decided to redo a poorly built waterfall after getting an idea from one at a garden center.  Sooooo, upon seeing the price of rocks, I called my brother who farms peppers.  He cleared some acreage years ago to farm and I knew he piled up the rocks that were on the property.  We went to look and had to laugh cause there were ACRES of rocks, all sizes, shapes, types just sitting there for the picking!!  We heave hoed 6 or 8 that looked like they would fit the bill and the waterfall looks fantastic!!!  So glad I remembered, cause it would have cost HUNDREDS to get the rocks if we had to pay!!!

Tink,
the biggest one pictured was one that DH brought home around our Anniversary a couple of year ago..
I told him that was the best rock he could ever give me! @O@

LUCKILY, he came home with alot more after that of all shapes and sizes.. still have alot of them on the side yard piled up for when we start landscaping the back yard.

I've been in rock heaven, let me tell ya....

Here's a pix with some of our free creekrock too! (sorry 'bout the bad pix quality)
