Confused Plants and Crazy Weather!
« on: January 04, 2008, 12:40:14 PM »
Just took some photos around the yard while my back fence is getting repaired.  I think this is the earliest my Japanese saucer magnolia has begun blooming.  The Green and Red Taro cuttings fellow Ponder Bonnie sent to me are starting new leaves.  The piggies/fishies are still begging for food.   The water lettuce is fine with a bit of cold/wind burn edges and covered with lots of black soot.  It's pretty cold some days and very warm on others.

Is the weather causing unusual growth patterns in your garden?

Yes, it's the same down here in South Fla.  80 degrees, everything growing and blooming, then 34 degrees, lots burned and sad looking.  It won't totally show the damage for 4-5 days.  But that's how the winters(if you can call them that ;) are down here) not complaining.... I am still enjoying sitting by my pond most every day and watching my just slightly slower fish.

Debbie and Tinkster,

There is a photo of my Plumbago attached.  All the plants photo'd above are really going all out and blooming so early this year.  Wonder if that is a cause for concern about our weather?  :(

My papaya is doing fine in an unheated green house.  Succulents are ready to go in the ground.
The second photo was to be the succulents, but though it is the same size as the one above, it is too large to be posted.  Computers!! I will never undwerstand!

Jerry for your photos are you using the VSO Image Resizer?  I got that tip from Sean and it's work wonderfully for me.  It may be installed already on your computer.
Just right click on a picture and a window will unfold.
VSO Image Resizer should be listed there.
Left Click on it and small window will open.
Choose your profile (320 x 200), action - create copies, destination - same folder as original.
You can even choose a few pictures to resize at the same time.
If you don't have this on your computer you may be able to download it from Microsoft (FREE)

But then again you do have Vista.....
At least this works for me.

Good Luck Jerry!

I do use VSO, it works 90% of the time.  I got if via Sean too.
I sometimes wonder if a very detailed photo is more difficult?
I resize with IRFAN VIEW too

Should not be the problem.  I set my camera to the largest pixel detail setting too.  Don't have an answer for ya.  :(

Sean,  they have not had charters in 30 years.  Fishing on weekends has recently resumed.
Perhaps whale watching off Santa Barbera?  I suspect you can do that in BC too
