My Lotus's seem happy
« on: July 02, 2008, 08:03:45 PM »
Here are a few shots I took late tonight 10:45 pm.  They're not open, but I still think their pretty.  One of them hasn't opened yet all the way but the bud is so large, I took a string and tied to privacy fence for support.  Thinking about cutting that one in the morning and taking it with me to work.  Try to over look the mess in front of the row of Lotus's.  Been potting up a few things, and the yard needs trimmed.

I'll try to get some shots Friday (if it don't rain) of them in the day time.

Kim,  Did you leave these lotus plants in the pots buried in the ground last winter?  Did you protect them in any way?   They sure are beautiful and look very happy.

Yes, I left them in the ground like that.  I took plywood or that foam insulation sheets, what ever I had on had to cover each pot.  Then sat bags of leaves, banana tree left overs in bags.  They did just fine.  I hate I didn't get to spruce up around the pots before they got big.  We had the big Cicada invasion that put a damper on things around here for about a months.  I still have my mulch sitting in bags beside my house.  We're just starting to get caught up on yard things.  Glad were still having pretty decent temps right now.

This is what it looked like last year when we first put them in the ground.

Kim, I remember when you first showed those photos.  I am glad that your insulating method worked.  I had one lotus in an above ground pot, but lost it because I never got around to burying it.  I also live in zone 6a/b.  I will try again.

What a fascinating method of growing them - OUTside the pond!

Hmmm.... Maybe I can find room to squeeze in one .....

 o(:-)  Beautiful   o(:-)

I have to get mine to put up more than one leaf at a time and survive the summer before I have to worry about wintering them over.
