This was one hell of a day
« on: September 21, 2006, 06:33:07 PM »
At 6:20 am this morning I had taken a shower and was dressed for work and geting some flannel sheets out of my linen closet in my bedroom when a shooting  pain shot across my back. Dropped me to the floor, flat on my back. The pain was so intense, I couldn't move. Made a big move and got to the bed. Not pretty :(.  Waves of extreme pain shot through my back every 10-15 sec.
My daughter got me some ibprofen and I called the hospital ER. I was waiting for the ibprofen to kick in so I could drive up to the clinic. didn't happen, I called my doc and he said to call 911 and get into the ER. Hated doing it, but had no choice. He shot me up with some type of pain med. and I left with some scripts for pain and  muscle relaxants. Needless to say, I've been flying high all day.
I was planning on stacking my firewood this weekend, but that plan is out the window now. I probably tore some ligaments when I was using a sthil pole saw to trim some high branches last week. Now I have to take it easy for a bit. (not something that I'm good at, or like)

Oh my gosh, what a bad-good day. Glad to hear the good news (glad it wasn't a stroke or anything seriously deadly). Now go to sleep!

Oh Steve!!!  I'm so sorry . . . . I know that's not something you are good at and I'm sure that pain is not something you like to give in to. . . . Sure hope it doesn't last long.  Take care and try to be still long enough for your body to heal so it can catch up to your mind!!!!

Back pain is so incapacitating - sorry to hear it.

Too bad you are not in this country illegally. You would not have hesitated to call 911, and you would not receive a bill.

Perhaps you could sneak into Canada?

Cheers,

Mike

Yikes!  I've been having some back pain as of late, but nothing like you just described.  Now I'm scared about putting the pond to bed for the winter this weekend.  Don't want to rip something!  Get well soon.

I woke up very sore, as you can imagine. Two pill later, I fall asleep while typing a post. ;D
I just walked over the the implement/hardware store and got food for the birds and filled the feeders. Now I'm going to bake a cake. If the right person stops by, I'm going to ask them to lift my lilies out of the pond for me, and I will divide and repot.
I can hardly stand the excitement ;D
Thanks for asking,

Steve

Good grief that had to be scary.  Don't be so hard on yourself Steve, and give yourself time to heal.  Like Joyce said, health is everything.  If you don't have it, ya ain't got much.....and you want to be around for a LOOOOONNNNGGG time!! O0

OUCH, hope you get better soon. Hot showers or hot compresses should help.

I know what you mean, it happened to me once, after working many hours for Valentine's Day I was shampooing my hair and when I reached up a shooting pain ripped down my arm, neck and shoulder and I almost passed out, I fell to my knees. I thought I had a stroke and called 911. I did manage to get dressed before the paramedics got there. I felt stupid to find out later that it was just a pulled muscle. It was so acutely painful.

Bless your heart!  I'm so sorry.  I wish I could come help with your lilies, but I can't cuz I don't even do my own . . . . (cuz I don't have any).  You need to rest and recuperate now . . . . worry about lilies later!

My back goes into a spasm once or twice a year, so I feel your pain.  Take the advice of Joyce and take it easy.  I often try to get back into the swing of things too soon only to have a set back

Thanks for the well wishes.
Like everything else, the morning is the worst, a little more sore then.
I think that the hardest thing that I did today was stay awake lol Those pills are killers!
I did manage to trim the hedge line on the south side of my lot though. Just the stuff hanging over my neighbors grass. Nothing too strenuous.
Don't get too excited about my baking comment. When it comes to cooking, I love to do that and can come up with some very good meals. But a baker, I am not - I only bake what I want to eat, and it has to come in a box (except for my blue ribbon carrott cake)

Don't worry about staying away just now . . . . sleeping the day away is probably what is best for your poor back. . . .
