A new home for a new lotus
« on: February 23, 2008, 02:21:33 PM »
I spent the day digging up a new home for a bare root lotus I purchased from charlotteda.  Here's what it looks like.  I researched prior to the digging and made sure it met with lotus requirements.  I plan on using time releasing fertilizer and topsoil.  Any other recommendations?  Here are a few pics of the kids.  Nevermind the string algae (argh).

it all looks great.. love your fishies!

I also have several "inground pots" for my lotus.  I use the time release fertizlier, veggie oscomite but I planted mine with a mix of topsoil and composted cow manure pur the advice of some of them here.

O0 You've already started your lotus!  Spring's just around the corner!

Where do you pond?  All your kids look cute.  :)

Me having soo many tubs of lotus sitting around...I can tell you mosquito's will be a problem in the hole---so think ahead either throw a couple squeeter fish in there when you get water in it...or mosquito dunk....looks like you did a great job  O0...can't wait to see pics of it blooming...

Not only do your wet kids look nice, but your little guy who is pondside is cute too. He looks excited about things.

Thanks everyone.  My pond is in the back corner of my back yard.  How much manure should I include?  I'll include some mosquito dunks as well.  Thanks for the advice and complents.

How nice to be able to start on that now.  I have thought about individual holes, but think I will wait and just make one larger lotus area, I know here it will have to be 3ft deep due to the winters.  Adorable little guy you have there, and the fish are nice too.

I looked up where I got the idea of making an inground lotus pot and it was from you, Tinkster.  That's a great idea and thank you very much.
