Break your heart
« on: February 23, 2008, 02:44:37 PM »

But somebody has to do it. You can zoom in on this to figure it out, what it is in this picture.

You can send the parents out of the room to spare them this pain but you cannot detach yourself enough to ever forget this.

Does anyone know what this thing is and what it means?

Picture a tiny arm four inches long. A baby. If you need to start an IV on them you have to tape their arm down above and below the elbow so they can't flex and fight you.

It breaks your heart every time.

The vein is really tiny like a hair and the butterfly needle is even smaller.

This is a picture of an armboard that you have to tape a newborn's arm down to so you can start an IV on them.

You see an ambulance going down the road with it's lights on and siren blaring.

Do you ever wonder what is going on in the back of that truck?

This is an armboard.

You beat me to it.  I googled the name and saw all the items similar to your photo.  So precise a science.  But it is heart breaking when you see a tiny baby hooked up to so many IV's and monitors.  :'(  Unfortunately experienced family members babies in this situation.  Not even going to mention the adults in similar situation.  Very sad indeed.

Amazing to think that those types of medical procedures can be performed on such a tiny thing.
