Going to make some Mizithra tonite
« on: March 04, 2008, 02:17:23 PM »
My dh and myself just love this dish at the spaghetti factory.  So, I'm going to try my hands at making it.

I bought the mizithra from the spaghetti factory.  The test is, browning the butter.  I sure hope it taste half as good as the spaghetti factory.   8-)~

Yup, that be it.  Just never heard it call burnt browned butter.

It turned out pretty good.  Probably be better next time.  Gonna brown the butter a bit more.  Its kind of rich.  They have it were you can get a managers special.  1/2 mizithra and 1/2 what ever.  So I made reg speghatti and made our plates 1/2 and 1/2.

I've only went to the Spaghetti Factory once and that was YEARS ago.
I need to go again sometime because at the time I didn't care for it.

I toss cooked pasta in butter add a little red sauce & grated cheese (we like a combo) and parsley. Then serve it with the spag. sauce. nummy.

I love their spaghetti with white clam sauce and creamy pesto dressing. Love their prices too. Cheap.

spaghetti w/white clam sauce and creamy pesto dressing?
sounds very interesting to me.--------I don't go out to eat, but love to cook, but also, spaghetti is not one of our favorite things to eat. Maybe I'll try this.
When I was in Italy, years ago, spaghetti was eaten as a salad before the meal. (probably where it belongs)

The creamy pesto dressing is on my salad and I dip my bread into it. LOL I don't have them pour it on my spaghetti. :)
I do hate that they use bagged lettuce. I hate that taste it has.

The fetching one loves going to the Spaghetti factory and she also loves their Mizithra.  Some of our local Spaghetti Factories are being phased out.  I hope they don't go under....

There is also an Old Spaghetti Factory up in Victoria B.C. that we ate at last year.  Same name but I'm not sure if they are related to the ones here.  The food was good but now I can't remember if their menu was the same.

This one is always so busy.  Its in the heart of downtown Louisville.  The horse carriage rides are always parked outside.  If it wasn't so cold that night and snowing, we probably would all took one.  There was another couple with us, along with thier kids.  There was a horse and carriage that would have seated all of us.  I think that would be so neat to do afterwards.

I don't think they have "the Spaghetti Factory" around here.  I've never heard of it either.  Oh well, it sounds good.   O0

I am not 100% sure about this but I believe the first Old Spaghetti Factory was in Gastown here in Vancouver. I remember eating there back in the late 70's. The second one was in New Westminster and we ate there in the early 80's. They spread from there. I was really surprised when I ended up eating lunch with cousins at one in Geneva a couple years ago when I in Europe.
I will have to try Mizithra next time I go there.

I ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown here in Vancouver many many years back. Marc worked at one in Calgary as a teenager.

Just did a Google search. The first one opened in Portland in 1969 and the first Canadian restaurant was opened in Gastown in 1970. Here's a link to the history. I love the decor of the original restaurant in Vancouver. It was full of wonderful stained glass and other unique antiques.

Well because of all this talk, guess where we ate last night....? 8)

I tried something different and got what the fetching one gets, Managers Special with half Mizithra and half meat sauce.  I admit, the mizithra was good....
