Hibiscus question
« on: March 18, 2008, 07:43:03 AM »
Our average last frost date is May 1st.  I want to move my Texas Star Hibiscus, do I dare dig it up to move before May 1st?

Yes, digging it up now while it is still mostly dormant is the best time to do it. 8)
You are in TX right? How much has it sprouted?

I am feeling GREAT! How're you?  :)
I'm getting ready to move to our new house.
Supposed to have one more 'tweaking' surgery in June, but that is just follow up to reconstructive surgery.
(scar reduction...basically)

I have been prowling my present gardens too, looking for sprouts, and little by little, potting up the plants, shrubs and trees I am taking with me.
Should have it all done by mid May, ready to move by the first week of June.

No sprouts is good. Can you gently brush off some soil from the crown area and look for underground shoots?
Then dig out a 24" rootball around the crown area.
Try to get at least 18" deep. Husbands (or full grown sons) are good for this part.  ;)
Peace to all  ... Joyce

Thanks again Joyce.

It was planted from seed last spring so maybe it isn't too solid in that pot.  S-in-Law should be here Sunday.  That boy is as strong as an ox.  He lifts concrete sacks like it is peat moss.
