A couple photos taken at the Van Dusen Gardens
« on: July 07, 2007, 07:12:29 PM »
I had some business in Vancouver yesterday. I stopped in at the gardens. The ponds were looking really nice with so many lilies etc. Here are a few photos.

This turtle was sunning itself on a Gunnera leaf.

Lucky you  :D ;)  I visited there about two years ago and I loved it (also fell in love with Japanese Maples there).

Thanks for sharing pics.  Cutie turtle!

Brings back memories for me.  Van Dusen was quite close to my home and as a teenager I went often, perhaps no admission then???  Used to walk up to Queen Elizabeth park too so we could play in the ponds and visit the conservatory.  Have you been there?  The last time I was there was about 15 years ago when my brother was married in the "sunken garden"  Van Dusen has really filled in,  I'm sure it's nothing like I remember.  I must try to visit next time I am out that way.  emm

Lower British Columbia is a never ending wonder. Things are possible there that my "spoiled gardener" Mediterranean zone won't allow me to do.

Cheers,

Mike

I bet the gardens have changed a lot since your were a teenager. It's changed since we first moved here 28 years ago. I haven't been to Queen Elizabeth park in a long time and must make a point of going there again some time soon. I pick up our sons meds at Children's hospital which is just down the road so end up going into the gardens regularly. It is so relaxing to wander through there. I focus on one area each time so it's less overwhelming. The only problem though is coming home to my messy garden after.

I guess  we are somewhat spoilt here with so much beauty. I was camping at Golden Ears this weekend for the first time and what a beautiful place that was. From now on though I will only do day trips. Camping in a tent isn't my forte! Really loved the scenery though.

Superb pics.  How did you get so close to the red ear?  I sure can't.

Jerry, telephoto lens! The turtle was on the other side of the stream sunning itself on a Gunnera leaf. Thanks.

Oh, my daughter and I were at Van Dusen in March 2006...it was even beautiful then!  She took great pics of it:
