Lets take a poll on lilies.....
« on: April 05, 2008, 07:27:33 PM »
Which is your absolute favorite.... Think it would be interesting to see which is your favorite tropical and hardy and why.  I am interested since I want to add some.. want to make sure I am not missing out on a must have lilly.

I will go first...

Tropical.. well red flare since shes the only one I've had and she was stunning, neon colored! ... very prolific also.

hardy my favorite would be James Brydon, its non stop blooms and I like the pads.

Tropical--the best all around---thats tuff but, I'm gonna have to say Albert Greenburg....its not a fussy lily....a work horse when it comes to blooming...and a nice color...

Hardy---this one is really really tuff  :-\ :-\.....but, Almost black....colorado is a really close second...

Tropical - this is really hard because I like so many of them . I'll go with Wood's Blue Goddess .
It's blooms are a large blue & it bloom's all the time once it get's started .

Hardy - Perry's Orange Sunset . I love the color & the pad's are streaked with red .
Blushing Bride did really well for me last year too & I love Colorado ...this is just too hard ...
too many Good lilies out there . O0

cool Poll!

Tropical: also Albert Greenburg. I love anything blue, but there is just nothing like AG.

Hardy: Joey Tomocik.

But I've noticed that certain varieties may do better one year or another due to the weather. I had a great Helvola season last year, the year before was rotten. Had a rotten Patio Joe last year, previous year was great.
I move the "performing" lilies to center stage when they're doing well, and they automatically become my favorites for the year.

I would say Foxfire for tropical. And  Barbara Dobbins for Hardy. But my very most favorite are N. immutabilis from Australia. Oh and N. minuta from Madagascar.

Hmm tough one.

Hardy? Well I have some great ones I love my n. Berniece Ikins and my n. Joey Tomocik (thanks Tammie!)

Tropicals? Well since I only have two at the moment ( getting ready to expand that too )  It is a toss up between the two but at the moment I think my n. Midnight edges out my Queen of Siam.

Our favourite Hardy: Escarboucle, a vigorous plant with wonderful bright red blooms. It just stands out in the pond. We also really like Colorado.

Favourite tropical so far: Sandra Lyn. It has survived several winters now.

I'll second Red Flare (or Antares)...red tropical nightbloomers. I had an Antares given to me several years ago from Craig Presnell that was awesome. Unfortunately, it didn't make it thru the winter : (  I especially love them because I can enjoy their blooms in the morning before going to work. All the other lilies, I have to wait until the weekend to see them blooming.

For hardy, it has to be Mayla for me.

Hardy, Perry's Baby Red  O0

Tropical, I haven't been able to grow them well enough to have a favorite.  :'(

Hmmm...this is tough. I think I can summarize by hybridizer more so than for specific lillies. Presnell and Winch for tropicals and Strawn for hardies.
