Lotus Question
« on: April 20, 2008, 09:09:41 AM »
I have a lotus in a large black vinyl pot, roughly the size of a wine barrel.  It's located in full sun on a brick patio.  It's presently forming the surface pads with a few starting to rise above the water.  Most are a nice shade of green but a few smaller surface pads have crisped up.  I'm wondering if the pot is getting too much heat and if I should move it to a more protected area where it would get a little less sun heating up the black vinyl sides.

You mean it's not just happening to me?!  Great question Mike.  I've even thought of digging a hole somewhere to put my tubs into.  Only problem...finding more yard. :D

How about digging it into the ground?  :)

Also, if you drop it into a half wine barrel,
the barrel insulates it from the heat and makes it look a lot nicer.

Yes Jerry, I'm not sure if maybe it involves too much fertilizer as well.  I'm one of those people who thinks if a little is good then why not a little more to make it gooder  ;D

I never thought about the wine barrel idea.  Thanks Joyce...  Like Annette, I would have to sacrifice other plants to put it in the ground.  Typical SoCal yard...overpriced and very little dirt to play in.... sigh....

I knew that would be the answer but avoided the obvious.  It's going to take me forever to find a "plot" for 2 large whiskey barrel liners  :P
