Question for Olympus C 750 UZ owners (past or present)
« on: May 11, 2008, 01:46:29 PM »
What is the biggest xd Picture Card you've used?

I just bought a 1 gig and it won't work and I'm not sure if the card is bad or if the camera just can't handle it.

The clerk at Office Max said there would be no problem. I can't find an answer online anywhere.

LeeAnne, we're using a 256 XD card in our C740, which is a 'sister' to yours. Your camera's firmware may limit it to 256MB. Don't know if it's possible to change the firmware. The manual on ours says 256XD is the max limit.

The newer XD cards have "H" or "M" and we don't really know what that's about.

From the Olympus website, the C750 UZ:

Hope that helps.

Hi Karen
Thanks for the info, the 750 came after the 740 so I'm hoping it can take a bigger card. I hate having all these cards lying around, they are so small and I think I just lost full one.  :'(

I looked through the manual and on their website and couldn't find a max limit for mine. I'll look again. I'm sure I downloaded that firmware update long ago.

The 1 gig card was $17.99. DH paid $70 for the 128 mb card back in 2003 when he bought me the camera.

Dang, I just found where it said compatible cards up to 256 mb.

Amazing, isn't it? My first digital camera was the Olympus C2040, and that came with an 8mb card.
We were in Best Buy the other day, and the cameras sure have changed. 8 & 10 megapixel cameras that fit into a shirt pocket. Very tempting...

They only made cards up to 256 mb when the manual was printed, I can't believe they made the cameras so that they could not use bigger cards in the future though they shipped the cameras with pathetic 16 mb cards.

Found a page on the Olympus website on an eBay seller's auction that shows a chart and says both our cameras should be able to use 512 mb including the M and H ones.

H stands for high speed, they write faster so you can take pictures again faster. M stands for something else, I can't remember but they are slower than the standard cards.
Not all card readers or memory slots on printers will work with M or H. What a PITA

Can't find any at retail though, only the 1 and 2 gigs.  :'(
