Went To The Huntington's New Chinese Garden

...like a lot of new ponds, the water was algae green and the landscaping needs to fill in, but it certainly has a lot of potential

The Japanese garden has had a 90 year head start

So, what are the design features that distinguish the chinese style from the japanese style?

Hard to describe but they are very different. I did just post links to photo tours of Portland's Chinese and Japanese gardens on the terrestrial gardening section. If you look through them you will see they are very different.

I don't know about all of them but here the Chinese garden is walled and smack dab in the middle of the city and has a lot of rocks, like the ones in the  photo above, very different looking. Lots more hardscape too.

The Japanese Garden's rocks are mostly smooth and natural like a stream polished them. There are few hardscapes.

I certainly can't wait to see the new garden at Huntington's with Ponders next Sunday.  Hope everyone nearby can attend!

Thanks for the beautiful photos Argos!

I wish I could meet you, I'm sick sick sick of the weather here and need some CA sun though I suppose La Nina is affecting your weather too.

LeeAnne it's been May gray here for the past 2 weeks with only this past Saturday and Mother's Day with a bit of sun.  Today we are drizzling.  But I like it like this  :D  I get more work done outside.

It has been that way here for months now, no significant sun since February and very cold.
