Good type of little frog
« on: May 29, 2008, 12:59:15 AM »
Here is one of the frogs I am very fond off, it is clinging to a bucket/pale while I am working. Stayed put even when I move the bucket. It's a minute little tree frog, they are completely unafraid and will happily climb onto your fingers too, or sit on your shoulder. They build a foam nest high in the trees, that drips mini tadpoles into the pond when they are ready to swim. I can never see the tadies they are so small.

PS it changes colours, sometimes when the sun is out they are pure white like snow, other times greenish to bright yellow. This is a male, the females are three times the size. The male will often ride around on the females back, just like on my bucket, until she finds a suitable tree. Could take days.

Interesting and very nice pic of the little fellow. I only saw ugly big toads around ponds, haven't seen any frog yet.

And I am inundated with Grey Tree Frogs this year too.
I love the call of the Grey Tree Frog!

Joyce that frog is remarkable, it looks like stone. Very interesting shape too, like a mini toad.
In Africa where my parents live we have so many fantastic frogs. One of my favourite species are the reed frogs. They are about as big as the index finger nail (trimmed short) and have the same pads on their toes as the tree frogs. They live on reed stems.
One I found is almost too beautiful to be alive. It's a see through emerald green with two thick pure metallic gold stripes along it's side. Truly a living jewel. Very difficult to handle as its very soft and can fling itself through the air and stick to whatever it lands on like magic putty.

Cedric, that is exactly what I thought this frog was when I got home from work that day. It was on my glass top patio table. I thought it was a rock from Jamie playing hopsotch. So I picked it up to toss it into the shrubs, and it moved! I just about jumped out of my skin. He was scrunching himself up in fear when I took that pic. When he relaxed, he had the suction cup pads, and looks more like a tree frog. Here is one on my window...and curious cat.

Some of our spring peepers are tiny, less than an inch long, and some can be green, matching whatever surface they are on.

Cedric, did you take that last picture, of the three frogs?  Do they live on your land?  Or did you find it on line somewhere?

I am so curious about your wonderland of a jungle environment; you are so good about describing all the details.
