Huge Clematis Sale
« on: June 12, 2008, 06:05:48 PM »

Chalk Hill is going out of business. They are very reputable as a mail order Clematis supplier.

They will ship in the fall.

I can't seem to get them to grow here.
The locally adaptable passion flower does great - even reseeds.
But the clemantis are wimpy... :(

Sunbeam, one of the regulars on the Clematis forum on Garden Web lives in Texas. She grows the Viticella group cultivars with great success.

Not all Clems grow well in all locations. Almost all Clems are wimpy the first few years. Hard pruning every early spring really helps with that. And extra watering.

Some of the folks on the Clematis board at Garden Web are absolutely crushed. I'm lucky that I can buy a lot locally without having to mail order but I will be ordering some that I haven't seen here.

I bought a couple interesting clematis back in the park seed sale you posted a few years ago, but left them all in Florida. I just put in a trellis behind some taro along a sidewalk in my backyard and planted 4 or 5 of the basic jackamani (sp...sorry!) this spring. I just picked out 4 from the sale you posted. The shipping was as much as the plants, but I suspect this will be very high quality plants and shipping. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to watch this part of the forum for more great sales that you always seem to find!!!  O0

Yes, the shipping is high for sure. I had about ten picked out but reduced my order when I saw how much the shipping was.

I'm told their plants are excellent quality.

I bought four I've never seen locally and no one else mail order has in the USA that I know of.

all the Clems I got from Park's died or were DOA.

I find notices for the sales on Garden Web.
