Hot weather garden tour at my yard
«
on:
June 09, 2008, 05:14:00 AM »
With the temperature at 99 degrees, the scheduled garden tour of my backyard took place yesterday. The whole thing began with an article in the newspaper about a lady in the area who had moved her garden from Chicago, Illinois to Asheville, NC, and then on to Charlotte, bringing her favorite plants with her at each move. She is a member of a garden club and was asked by them to arrange a tour. Having been to my yard a couple of years ago, she asked to include my garden and things grew from there.
We had 30+ attendees even with the heat. Here are some pictures of the brave souls.
Anybody spot "Wilbur" in pic # 2?

Thanks for showing your beautiful gardens, is Wilbur a dog or a pig, I saw something by the big tree, center top, looked like either a pig with pink ears or a dog with pink sunglasses. All that natural garden and no weeds.

Wow, that's not a yard - that's like a PARK. So nice to see so much of your yard, in addition to the pond shots we get from time to time.
Our Pond & Garden tour was Sat & Sun, so I've still got "garden on the mind" and really enjoyed seeing your pics.

Thanks for the complements.
In the story "Charlotte's Web", Wilbur is the pig. In the original animated 1973 movie, the one in which the hilarious Paul Lynde played the voice of Templeton, We felt that this pig statue looked like Wilbur. I have a collection of "Garden Pigs" but that's another story.
Here is my statue:
And here is Wilbur from the movie:

John, your yard/park looks wonderful. I think Wilbur is adorable, but he reminds me of "Babe" the pig from the movie of the same name.

John I echo what others have said about your "park". Absolutely gorgeous! Would love to see more pictures. Can only dream about becoming the Master Gardener you are.

Wonderful pics of your garden Johns, but I think we need more!
I found Wilbur right away. That gave me an idea. I have a good friend that used to raise pigs, they are retired now. She needs a garden pig!

I thought Wilbur was a real pig in your photo.
Pigs make a cute collection.

It's lovely Johns, parts of the landscape remind me of a rain forest.
