« on: June 16, 2008, 12:18:29 PM »
does anyone know how to get rid of algae that shows ups in the day floating on the surface and is gone at night or by morning, and then starts over again everyday. A pond shop called it houdeeny alge but did not know what to do for it. The pond water is clear but floating algae during the day.

Use polyester batting for quilts to catch the fine algae from the outlet from your filter before it goes back to the pond.  You'll be surprised how much batting you need to change.

Mine does the same thing.  My reason is due to lack of shade and pond coverage.  It is a must.  The algae comes from the bottom of your pond and as it heats up the algae floats to the surface.  I learned from people here that patience and proper floaters are important.

I find that vaccuming the bottom of the pond every other week really helps, and then you can do a good water exchange while your at it.
I'm just happier outside!

Get a bag of healthy Daphnia, they will clear it up in a matter of minutes and your fish will then eat the Daphnia. I assume it's an algae bloom. Maybe you need more submerged pond weed.
