Heliconia Blooms!
« on: June 17, 2008, 06:34:32 PM »
Marilyn C from Texas sent this to Sean a few years back. As luck would have it, he was in California at the time, so he planted half of it in my garden. It was in shade, but grew tall, and into the sun. It has limped along, and without humidity (which I think is a wonderful thing) I never expected a bloom, but still enjoyed the tropicalesque fronds.

Rooting around in the area this weekend, hacking back the geraniums (gerania?) which are taking over, I saw these. Two different neighbours heard my whoop of joy.

Hopefully many more to come.

Cheers,

Mike

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?

Fab photo's of that amazing Heliconia! I know Marilyn would be proud since she sent us the whole plant that she had.
When I come back to visit, I will send her a chunk back. Mine has not revived from winter yet but I expect to see it soon.

Cheers,
Sean

Sean - if you are going to visit all the way from Vancouver to Texas, you best come by Danbury!
I will pout if you don't visit us too.  o(:-)

I haven't gotten into the gingers, yet. I don't have shade, yet. I'm still planting trees.
That is a lovely bloom.  @O@

Hey LeeAnne -
Yes, we went to the official American Ponders restaurant in L.A. - BC in Pasadena. Just minutes from my office, and Mikey brought me a tropical lilly - and picked up the tab - Didn't I just score big today!

Jerry, Mikey, Sean, CoolShades have all eaten there at different times, so we have adopted it.

Cheers,

Mike
