The problem with living on Main Street in Reeds Springs,Missouri, is that floods like this happen at least once a year, sometimes more..... the last time was in March of this year.
(But it wasn't as bad as this time)........and the high water is usually gone within a few hours. We are still getting water running down the road in spots today, but it is never more then an inch deep, and mainly cause several of the culverts diverting rainwater are clogged with gravel.. According to my 86 yr old neighbor who has lived here all his life, he can only remember it being this bad about 20 yrs ago...............
So far most of the damage has been from the water getting into buildings and/or removing asphalt from parking lots..............if you don't count the train tracks. I heard something to the effect that 20,000 yards of dirt and gravel will need replaced before they can replace the tracks, most of the ties from that section went missing.... About the only damage I've had so far is where the road and my driveway meet................I now have an 8 in drop off that about 18 inches wide and the width of my driveway. But I'm pretty sure a pickup load of gravel will fix that.............
Part of the problem now is all the looky lous driving up and down the road (we've had more traffic in the last day and a half, then we had all last month), they are getting in the way and causing clean up delays............Let me tell you its not much fun standing by the side of the road helping with the clean up and someone(usually from out of town) drives by fast enough to soak you and your helper with the water their car or truck has thrown up..........
Oh well, I hope everyone elses week end has gone better the mine,
And thank you for all the thoughts and prayers,
Vicky
