Pics of a few things blooming this week
« on: June 28, 2008, 06:45:48 PM »
One evening this week, I noticed another bud on Momo Botan open. This was between 7 and 8 p.m., right before a storm.

Intense close-up...whoaaaa! (Wayne's World)

This morning, I woke up to two huge blooms, one on Mayla and the other on Barbara Dobbins. Two great 'Strawn' lilies.

AWESOME PIX!!! O0 O0 O0

How hot is it down there?
It's horridly hot here today.
Finally turned on the AC.
House is slowly cooling off.  :P

This is just my stupid opinion and corresponding question...but are you sure that is Momo Botan?
It looks a bit white to me at the base of the petals, but that is why I asked about the heat.
Sometimes flowers will be a lot less colorful, pale out a bit in high heat conditions. 8)

Here on LI, Momo Botan does not have any white on the petals.
Here's a pic of mine...

Another...

I bought mine from Craig Presnell. 8)

Joyce, hmmmm....now you've got me thinking. I got mine from Lawanna. Maybe it is the heat? It's been in the mid 90s, but "feels like 100" according to the weather channel. Maybe Lawanna can post some pics of hers to compare?

Update, I just looked at the gallery on victoria-adventure, and one photo of a plant in San Antonio also had some white in it:  http://www.victoria-adventure.org/lotus/clyde_ikins/momo_botan1.html. This is only the second bloom and mine is in a container, not a pond, and as I posted above, it is hot here (San Antonio, too). So maybe that all can account for the color variation? I'll still wait for Lawanna to weigh in.

Hmmm...I can't remember where I got my first start---I lost mine this year--didn't get it planted soon enough and it died on me...I have been able to find momo botan on the web that looks like mine--also found them that look like Joyce---so I have no clue  :-\ :-\
Lawanna

here a pic of mine

here is a link to a plant profile data base-it has the white on it--and then it also shows some that look just like Joyces....

It is a gorgous lotus, I have one this year and am hoping for  a bloom,  has it's first arial pads.  All my lilies are a bit late out of the gate this year as I've been to busy to fertalize yet, thought I'd get it done today, but no luck other more pressing things came up, but I WILL get everything fertalized before the weekend
