"Newest" redneck addition
« on: July 08, 2008, 02:29:48 PM »
 lol  lol  lol

DH finally helped me with the "new" tank.  The tadpoles were about to boil in the 20 gal feed tubs.   :'(

Now he says, " Where are you gonna put the next one.  Leave enough room to get between the rows.  I think I know where there might be another leaky tank not bent up too bad."

Yep...I think he is finally catching on.   {:-P;; {:-P;; {:-P;;

That looks great, Sue.  Nothin' Red Neck about it.

What are the round barrels at the edge?.. filters?  tadpole tubs?

And how do you stop a "leaky tank" from leaking?... is that blue material a liner?

They look wonderful! O0 I never thought about taking the bottom out of the tank and using a liner inside. DH always insists on soldering up any holes and undercoating the bottoms. That lasts about two years if I'm lucky.

People around here are "proud" of their stock tanks. Do you know how difficult it is to find a used one, even with the bottom rusted out?? Then if you do they still want big $$$ for it!! ::) {nono}
Before we moved a couple of months ago DH happened to notice the neighbor had piled several large stock tanks by the drainage ditch that runs along his property. DH stopped and asked him what he was doing with them and he said "oh, we went to the poly tanks so I'm just going to trash these." DH said, well could I buy one of them? The guy says "sure, $100 your choice."  ::) {nono}
The blasted things wouldn't even hold water, he was going to trash them and he wanted $100 each for them!!! >:(- ::)
Sheesh! For $200 I can have a brand new one! ::)

That tank has been in my backyard for at least 10 years...maybe longer.  It was brought home when it was beyond patching for the cattle.  It used to have strawberries in it...we took out the dirt to fill up some holes the dog dug.  Then It had small twigs and lily trash in it.  DH just broke the seams in the bottom and lifted it off.

It is a 7 1/2' tank so the 8' kiddie pool has a few tucks in it to make it fit.  I'll see what the ice does to the tucks this winter.

We have stocktanks ourselves and a lot of farmer and rancher friends to get them from.  Some folks feed hay out of the leaky tanks.

These tanks have no pump or filter.  The bucket and tubs are lotus that have done no good...too hot and low humidity here apparently.  I'll plant cattails or something in them next spring.

Hey Sue,

Very cool for sure 8) 8)

I love those big old galvanized stock tanks. It's the only tank I'd put in my yard, now I'm gonna have to see it my farmer buddy has an old one laying around, rotting away.

And yours looks great O0 O0 O0

Looks great, You have inspired me.  We were at DH's deceased aunts to water plants and pick up a few things of the MIL's we are storing there since selling her house.  Found 2 large old galvanized wash tubs, one round one square, so I took them home, a bit on a smaller scale to start with....maybe a lily or something.  I will have to check out the barn and see what might be in there or the machine shed, have not been in either for a while.  Have been hauling rocks from one of the old milk houses for around the pond also.
