A WaterBUG's Life!
« on: July 30, 2008, 03:41:59 PM »
What do you think?

I'm guessing this is a dragonfly shell.  I got so excited to find it but then realize it was just a shell....no wonder it stayed put while I got my camera!  :D

It looks like the bug unlaced its back strings to get out of the shell!  ;D

that's a cool shot.  Isn't it wierd to think about them crawling out like that.  I know, when we had the Cicada Invasion, there were shells all over the place.

Ponds are like patato chips, ya just can't have one.

I love to see stuff like that and know that my little corner of the earth is doing it's best to add to the creatures we have.

That's why it makes me so mad to know my neighbor is out shooting possums, raccoons, groundhogs, and chipmunks. He thinks he protecting his (and our) property. He said, "If I don't kill them, they'll dig under your storage building." And I said, "SO??" Then he said, "The floor will cave in." The dumb part was that the building he's talking about was built to house stored cars and doesn't have a floor. So the groundhog just digs down under the wall and in a little bit and he has a nice dry burrow. HE's not so dumb. But then the neighbor stuffed rocks and bricks in the burrow and got upset when it started digging under his garage/storage building.

Me too Esther!  8)  I get really upset with my own husband when he feels he has to "control" certain animal populations or there will be too many of them and they'll be destructive.  Don't even get me started on the meaning of "destruction"..... >:(-

This year it seems I have more dragonflies of the orange jumbo size and the small blue and green kinds!  @O@
I have a few waterplant pots open to them while my ponds with resident fishies are covered with nets.  I even found an orange dragonfly trapped inside the koi pond netted area.  Of course I watched it a bit before opening the netting for it to fly out.  But not without a farewell speech!  :D ;D

Same story up here Annette - Jumbo orange ones by the dozen. Frequently mating, so it looks like large orange "O"'s flying around. Sort of an aerial alphabet soup, but with 25 letters missing.

Have not seen one of the smaller bright blue ones in quite a while.

Cheers,

Mike

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?
