First Tropical bloom of the summer
« on: July 23, 2008, 10:55:28 AM »
And its a mystery too. :D

I believe this is an unknown blue that Vickie sent me last summer with a Eurayle.
I thought it was my Lavender Lace but apparently I got them mixed up in the aquarium over the winter. ::)
I lost most of the tropicals I had over the winter. This one survived and I have one other potted up that is just sitting there with baby pads that won't come up to the surface.

This is one of the pads. They are rather pretty and bright in color. Sorry the pic is out of focus.

Pretty bloom, and pad - glad it survived.

Cheers,

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?

Very pretty lily.  I like the coloring of the pad.  Looks like a blue I have but can't think of the name.  Lost my tags.  I'm sure someone else will know.

I have something similar as well, I got from the market in Thailand. Extremely consistent and good flowerer strong as old boots, lovely colour and shape. Will also readily produce many shoots from corms and corms with the slightest stress, even just float the plant for a week and small crowns will develop along the rhizome. Its what they call "Star of Siam" in America , seems to be the standard Purple/blue with mottled pads in Thailand and other parts of Asia. Very nice a real "keeper". Think its that one at least.

Post another picture when the plant has matured and is sending up bigger flowers.

Cedric, I believe you could be right on that. It does look like Star of Siam. It openend a different bloom today that was larger and opened up more in the center. Unfortunately I didn't have time to grab a pic of it. It has a bunch of buds coming up so there will be more flowers soon. Its really a very pretty lily both in flower and pads.

It was given to me as Panama Pacific years ago. And it isn't. I don't have Star of Siam . But my friend does and she would know if it was. She was sent this lily as Panama Pacific too. We both got from same place.

After I started looking at more pics and looking closer at the lily I can see its not Star of Siam.
Whatever it is its pretty and I really like it. It has a nice fragrance too. The blooms this weekend were larger too.
