who knows what this is?
« on: July 28, 2008, 11:50:22 AM »
Hi everyone...been away a while, just really busy with all sorts of things lately.

Can anyone tell me what these things are that are getting all over my filters, both in the biofalls and in the skimmer?  They don't "rinse" off, and seem to be attached ... are they okay/bad/scary?

thanks...and I'll post in the chat section this afternoon if I get some free time....

Hey Michael!  Good to see you're well and back!

Looks like bug eggs or larvae to me.  If anything you'll have lots of bugs soon.  Anyone else know what this is?

I wish I knew...there's literally hundreds of them, used to be only in the biofalls, now they're in the skimmer and all over the skimmer basket.    I have no idea what they are or where they came from, but there's no getting rid of them unless I sit and pick each one off...they stick to things like glue!

Instead of handpicking them off, how about if you tried scrubbing them off with a plain sponge (no residue on it, even if it is a new sponge make sure no residue of cleaning agents) instead?
My next female cat will be called "Whata Lily"!

I agree to it looks like nature at work. Hopefully for the good. I don't have any idea what they are though. I have these tiny squiggly black crawly things in my biofilter. I have no idea what they are also. I just figure it must be just a natural occurrence . I just leave them alone.

I'm hoping it's nothing to worry about...there are so many of them.  I could 'scrub' them off the frame, but they're all over the brushes too, and before I buy more brushes I'd like to find out if they're good or bad....they seemed to have spawned from something...but they only recently started showing up in the skimmer and they are all over it.

I'll let you know if I find out....

Flick them into the water and let the fishies have them...that's a natural way of taking care of them--that or call in the birds!  O0

unfortunately, they don't 'flick' very well...they're stuck and have to be kinda scraped off.  I heard back from a pond store that have gone to and he said he doesn't know what they are, but they're in every pond and completely harmless.  He has a very clean pond with lots of filtration and he has them, so I guess I don't have to worry.  There's just so many of them I'd really like to know what they are still....

Maybe they are just seeds that have blown into your pond?  It's weird looking.  Nice to see you back, though.   :)
