LeeAnne, etc. I need a Clematis ID please
« on: August 12, 2008, 05:43:30 PM »
These clematis just looked beautiful but now are looking very ratty/brown so I am wanting to cut down but I don't know what group they are, etc.

LeeAnne or anyone can you ID?

Also I am wondering about waiting until next month and just relocating to another area because the original owner planted these right by the main walkway to the house.  Beautiful while blooming but an eyesore right now!

Thanks,
Bonnie

It looks like Niobe but there are several that are similar. I'm not sure in your zone if it has time to recover from a hard pruning now or not. They sure do in mine. It is typical of the type IIs to brown out in summer and get "bald lower legs"
