I bought a little gizmo, about the size of a spool of thread, at a garage sale (for a whole 25c!) that is a "Critter Controller."

Does anyone know anything about these gadgets?  Do they work?  I Googled, and it seems that they are for rats, mice, and insects, in the home.  I was hoping to use it outside (protected electrical outlet) to keep the raccoons and cats away from my pond.

But if it repels insects, will it also repel dragon flies and other beneficial bugs?  What about toads? 

Will it work on larger animals, like 'coons and cats?  And do they even work at all?

I tried two. It scared/annoyed the crap out of my cats when I tested it on them but did not deter raccoons. I had to put in an electric fence for that. Only thing that worked. They were both marketed for ponds. One was a gift and I bought the other one.

I have no way of knowing if my gizmo is working or not, but it's plugged in, so hopefully it is.  I was just out there, and my Neon Flasher dragon fly was darting about, so that's proof it won't chase off the bugs.  I just hope it works on the cats!
