Quarantined Koi Changing Color
« on: August 25, 2008, 04:41:03 PM »
The koi that is being treated for a flesh wound has changed from black with barely visible orange splotches to silver grey with black outlining all of his scales, with noticable orange splotches.

He's been in a 50gal RubberMaid tub for exactly one week, with 1 lb or more salt, pump, splasher, flower pot to hide in, plants, and a baby koi for a buddy, in a shaded area, but the water is still over 80*.

Why is he changing color?  When he goes back in the pond, will he stay the new color, or go back to black?

I had a mostly orange Koi change to mostly blue/black with a little orange on his lower sides and tummy. He wasn't hurt or quarantined either. The rest of them have stayed the same.

Stress wil cause them to fade out...so will water quality....he should go back to normal as long as its not genetics that caused him to loose color---sometimes bad water quality speeds up the process if its genetic...I'm guessing your guy is just stressed so hopefully he will get his color back when put back into the pond...
