« on: May 09, 2008, 06:18:58 PM »
The answer is "ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!"
My son decided that my waterfall should be rebuilt to look like he thinks it shold look like.
Well, this is NOT what I think it should look like!

I AM NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe you can tell.

Tell him to " Giter Done".

BTW, how old is he?  If he is capable of finishing the job, allow him the slack and praise him for his effort, even if you would have done it differently.  Remember when you were young and longed for your fathers' praise??

Just an old father's viewpoint....

I was just about to ask also how old he is. My son is turning 12 this week and I hope that's not what he has in store for me in the near future!
Sorry that it's such a mess!

Johns,
I am also an old father with trial and error and some failure as a teacher.
First of all, he is 21, took a semester off of school. (I'lll stop there {:-P;;)
He has been doing all of the yard / bark for spring and does have an eye for beauty. He has spread 10 yds and prepared all of the beds first, so I do trust his judgement on how things should look. there is about 1/2 yrd left for around this pond.
His waterfall would be very good looking, but would leak. I explained that to him, but he doesn't get it, so like John's advice, I told him to getr done, and that I'm sure it will be very nice when he is done. He now see's it as a daunting task.
After a few more conversations, I think that he realizes that my first hand knowledge about leaking might just be right, so he's thinking that this will be a father and son project.
I've told him more than once, that the reason that I know about leaking waterfalls, is due to FAILURE!, and that I've rebuilt that falls more times than I care to think about.
So, if this is going to be a father and son project, he will have to cave to us doing it my way with his input.

And I always give him the praise that he deserves, BUT, when he makes more work for me, I also let him know that.

I'll finish this story with pics when we are done.

Steve

Nothing new, My priorities are fishing and motorcycles. The yard is ready for summer now, Just have to move  the big goldfish into the pond from inside. Probably tonight or tomorrow.
Some day, If it doesn't get done and I'm in the mood with nothing else to do. i'll go at it,
otherwise, I'm having too much fun now.

Steve

Update-------put this thing to rest yesterday.
Here is the finished product.

A few of these rocks, including the tile rock, came from lake michigan. Had the lake washing it for years. Who knows where it really came from?
Thanks,
Steve

i have a 19 y/o son and i can definitely relate...they know it all and we never lived....when he was little i could tell him to bring me that dust ball under my bed in the corner and he would have found it,but the older they get i think they get brain dead at times because if i tell him to go get that huge shovel next to the shed its mom i can't find it..maybe its selective retardation  lol   just kidding he's a good boy but he can get aweful bullheaded and mouthy.... lorraine
