single koi alienating himself

Hi guys i have a 5 inch koi that keeps hiding behind a plant pot away from anyone else.i netted him to see if any physical signs and yes i held my breath but no signs on him...he will swim with fish when they come to the other side of the pond but won't come with the other fish to eat or school with them away from the pot area...any ideas whats wrong with him???  lorraine

I really don't know much about koi psychology, but when one of mine did that, he ended up dying of suspected mouth rot.  I really, really hope that yours is just a bit shy.  Good luck!

i didn't see him in the normal place and while i was feeding i looked for him but i have so many sharks lol during the frenzy i couldn't see much but i do think he was in there with them...maybe the rain made him act that way.. ::) anyhoo i hope he is fine...what causes mouth rot???  lorraine

I have no clue.  I asked the same thing.  All I saw (just before it was too late), was a tiny red mark that I thought was a bruise or a 'paper' cut or something.  He was eating, and just stayed away from everyone.  If I ever see that behavior again, I'm going to be a LOT more cautious.  Good luck to you!

well he got over whatever was bothering him cause he is schooling again eating like a pig.. here is a pic and he is the white one with orange head on the right side front of the pic...  lorraine   @O@
