Why is my pond so very clear?

Never been vacuumed (I will soon) filter pads need to be rinsed.
Is it the cooler weather or is it that my fish are gone?  I did spot one of three turtles, so they are still okay.

I was about to respond that it is because your fish poop less in the winter, assuming you are not feeding them, and then as I was reading your post you reminded me............what fish??....... 

If you swing southbound on the 405 to visit your son you could replenish your fish at Eastern Nishikigoi which is located one block north of the 405, Goldenwest exit here in OC.  I was there last week and they had healthy looking comets and shubunkin.  I didn't notice any wakin but then again I wasn't looking for them.  They of course of koi as well.

I like that place, Mikey!  Nice people and that's where I got lunch for the Heron that stops by here (  >:(- ).

I'll probably go there again in the spring to get some more Wakins...I like them better than the koi.  My koi are getting huge now....not sure if I'm going to have to get rid of them soon...

I don't know what your temps are right now Jerry but when water temps drop into 50s and 60s here, many times a pond will look much clearer.
This is a number of things coming into play. Fish become lethargic and are not as active.
Less movement in the water allows any particulates in the water to drop and settle on the bottom.
Many times for us cool weather means grey days and less sunlight and that means less chance of any sort of algae growth.
Early fall and late spring are when my water is crystal clear.

Hey, clear water---clear vision---both a necessity. I was going to say that the lack of the fish was some to do with the clear water and then coolor temps help too. As for the cataract surgery, my mom was so excited to realize the colors around her were so much brighter and things were so clear pretty soon after the surgery.
