how did he get there?
« on: September 22, 2008, 08:04:25 PM »
I go out every night with my flash light and do a head count.  DH likes to tease me about it, but the other night, he was the one to run for the camera.  I couldn't find Jebidiah anywhere and while walking from my water garden back to the turtle/fish pond, a glow on the table on turtle island caught my eye.  We didn't get very close, I was afraid to scare him and cause him to jump in a panic.

 :D  seems crazy to me.  this is the table he was on.

I assume he jumped up the waterfall, to the chair, to the table.
He obviously got down safely, I spotted him in one of the ponds two nights later.

I had the same question about a resident frog two summers ago. I discovered him in the Skippy. That was the summer we had the terrible Japanese Beetle invasion. I would catch them off the tree by the Skippy and feed them to Freddie.

Whew I'm glad to hear a least one other adult checks on their frogs at night. If I don't find them the first go round I check again before bed time. I have three adults, my largest male has been missing the last three nights and I hope he is just out looking for larger prey and returns soon cause there are no other ponds or streams in hopping distance. :-\

I love looking for my frogs.  I have just the one bullfrog, and I bought 20 native chorus frog tadpoles this summer.  I see a couple from time to time, but full grown they are less than 2 inches.  A little harder to spot!  We are just waiting for this winter to see if they start ribbiting.
I hope yours shows up soon.  I've gone as long as a week without spotting my bullfrog, I was quite worried.

 ;D lol, Karen I was thinking almost the same thing.
 I have sooooo many frogs it would be to hard to keep track of them all, but I do enjoy them.....my grandson enjoys them even more.   Hmmmm why would they start ribbiting in the winter, ours are much more vocal in the spring for mating.

Hi Marla,

The mating season for the chorus frog here starts in November.  I thought that was strange too, but thats what the calif. wildlife site says.  Hopefully I will get to confirm this.
here is one of the little ones.

I don't go out at night to see frogs. Just the tadpoles. With a flashight , they are so easy to see. In the daytime they are invisible!

My frogs vanish.  I have one I can see at night, but can't get nearly as close as you.
It could be a toad too, but I don't think so. {nono}
