Pond Flooding...
« on: September 26, 2008, 09:07:55 AM »
The lotus pond is almost crested over it's berms. You can see it creeping into the built in overflow area, upper right hand corner. When it does it'll drain off into the parking area which then drains down into the front pond at the beggining of the main drive to my office.
We are leaving momentarily cuz once the main drive floods, and it is at least 18" under water now, we are stranded!  :o

Frogs are LOVING it!  :D

From my office window...you can see the entire nursery in the background is flooded already, standing water.  :o

More pix as I was leaving at 12:15 during a break in the monsoons...
The front pond at the entrance, blue dune grass is at the east edge of the drive.
Main road in the distance beyond the gates.

Wave action from my Jeep...

That blue dune grass (Elymus arenarius) is planted at the edge of the Belgian Block Curb.

Wow, everything looks so lush and green;  what I wouldn't give for a couple of days of refreshing rain!  We haven't had rain here for at least 2 months.  DH is harvesting soy beans this week, the dust is flying so I have to close windows.  It's not hot here today but after the hurricane winds with no rain, some of the corn has been flattened.  Some still have no power.

Your grass is beautiful and the frogs are so cute sitting at the edge of the pond! O0

You must share your rain!  You have too much rain as it is...but seriously I hope there isn't too much damage from all the flooding.  The frog picture is amazing, like they are waiting for a wave  :D

I so miss the rain but I would never wish for it to happen all at once.  Is this rain the remnant of a hurricane or tropical storm?

Is this what I have to look forward too  :o  It started raining this morning, and will go all weekend.  How is your new house holding up to the torrential rain?  I may take advantage and get some house cleaning done.

Rain...kinda like curly hair...those than have it wish they didn't...those that don't wish they did.

We had about 4 inches about 6 weeks ago.  The winter wheat came up...none since and now it's suffering.  The life of a farmer  :-\

It was too much rain for the entire pond!
Saw some small fry sized dead fish on the drive this morning, that meant they swam out with the overflow and got caught on the drive.
I hope some made it down the drive to the front pond. The crows are feasting on the little dead bodies now.
The drive was a river when I left last Friday.  :o

Just went out and fed the koi, they all seem fine and no big ones missing.  8)

Yeah, your drive did look like a river. Those were some cool pics though. Seems like lately rains come in a deluge rather than a nice rainfall. (although we did have a nice rainfall this morning)
I would have thought that the fish in the two ponds did some migrating when given the chance like the driveway river.
