The back bluff...looks like a mountain lion could come prowling over that ridge any minute...

Closeup of the bench and mushroom garden

Sangu Kaku 'Blood Bark' Japanese Maple, bark will turn fire engine red in the winter...:cool3:

The other side of the same tree, where a stag rubbed his antlers on the trunk until the bark was completely gone...
saw dust around the trunk at the base. This tree may not survive

Daisies still blooming since April...

Walter Pagels last bloom...

Imps still blooming! (nibbled by deer at the bottom)

Hey, those are great Joyce. It's really nice seeing your new yard and plantings. A work in progress, I'm sure. I do agree, the lion could very well come in from up there. Looks like a good vantage point to hunt from. I'd probably be keeping my pets inside for a while though.

J,

Looks like your new digs are beginning to reflect your landscaping genius.  I can't wait to see what it will look like in five years!

BTW:  I see that a Long Island teacher has disappeared after having a flat tire.  Be careful.

As usual your photos are stunning O0.......love the mushroom garden, I think I have a few of the same ones....but that really big one is cool, is that a little fairy house by your circle of shrooms?  Great color on the daisies, with the last freeze I don't think much is blooming anymore at my house, hard to tell, haven't had any time to get out and check things out after work.

Joyce, wow, wow, wow. Everything looks great and I especially love the pot.

Don't give up on the tree. We had the same thing happen last fall, and the tree did die, but came back from the roots.

What is that pretty variegated plant second from last? Love it.

Beautiful pics Joyce...these seem much more sunlit than your previous home.  So much fun looking at your pics and getting ideas... :)  I really like the look of your bluff, it's very interesting and cool being able to look down on your surroundings. 8)

Thanks everyone!  8)

John, they found the teacher dead and her husband admitted to it.
VERY premeditated. ::) {nono} {-)

Marla, yes, it's a little fairy house, ceramic, handpainted. 8)

The big mushroom I made in ceramics class, back when I needed a hobby when I was going through chemo.
It's 2 pieces, and the stem is filled with gravel for weight. The tops fits onto the stem and into 3 grooves so it is sturdy.
The top is a multicolor 'exploding' glaze that looks like marble after it explodes during firing.
I used to use it under my rain chain to disperse the water at the old house.

Thanks Karen...wont give up on the tree until it rots away.  ;)
The variegated plant is Euphorbia characias 'Tasmanian Tiger', a gift from an AP forum friend.  8)

Jerry, those are Sempervivums: Hens & Chicks. Also an Orostachys, same family of plants. All are very hardy here.
They are fine all winter, and evergreen, usually getting purple, red and bronze colors during the winter. O0

Thanks Jonna, I have one pot on each side of the front door. :)

LuAnn, I'm constantly up on the ridge looking down the entire length of the property.
Puts things at a different perspective and gives me more ideas. :D
We are at the 2nd most highest point in our town at 67' above sea level at the SE corner of our property.
Very unusual for LI which is notorious for being flat and easy to flood. We're above the 'Storm X' floodline.  8)

Peace to all  ... Joyce

That must be so awesome, as I am totally landlocked in the middle of the Midwest!  I've often wondered what it must be like to live or to have always lived by the sea.  What is the view on the other side of your bluff?  Can you look out over the town or do you have neighbors on that side too?

Ledges, like rocky stairs, up to a bridge that passes over a waterfall, more stairs up to the gathering spot at the top!

Plant the far edge of the rocky stairs, series of ledges, with japanese maples, so the end of the walk isn't visible from the bottom, but you can still look over everything when you are at the gathering spot at the top.

Oh, the possibilities!!!!
