My first try at a Pond- Thanks to this site
« on: September 26, 2009, 08:47:48 PM »
My first pond.  Built a new house and needed to solve a low spot in the back yard, so thought I would install a pond.  Thanks to the help and info on this site, I think it came out pretty good.
A few pictures of the progress that took me about 5 months to complete.
Oh, in case you are wondering- I am a firefighter, so I thought the hydrant was appropriate.

That looks great!  I like the fire hydrant...very unique way to start a waterfall.
I'm broke and can't afford to pay attention, so you might have to lend me an ear.

I, too, really like the fire hydrant - perfect!  You've done a very nice job, and I'm also looking forward to update pictures as you fill in the area with plants and fish. O0

Thanks for all the comments, but like I said...Thanks to all here on this site.  I never had tried a pond before.  My brother has one and was a little help, but mostly just joined up and started reading about it here.  Great advise and lots of pictures here to help with the design.

The one problem I did have was the area between the two ponds.  It leaked first try because I just overlapped the 2 liners.  The flat rock for the waterfall just made the water backup and leak through.  The bottom liner actually started to float up because all the water I was losing under the liner.  One can of rock foam solved that, only after removing a lot of the rocks to get at it.

I did actually built a plant shelf under the surface of both ponds, but those darn plants are $$$$.  Could only afford a few to start.  More to come next year.

Thanks again for helping me out with such a great site.

You could go to the plant exchange here and a lot of people sometimes share their plants only for postage and sometimes they even sell ones for very low...Hope I helped...
BTW that is a nice pond....I like it..
Scott I'll miss you buddy... :(

Definitely wait until Spring for great prices and choice plants from many experts here.  You'll recognize the ones with the many accolades to their accounts.  You just need to wait, that's all!

Outstanding, the fire hydrant adds a unigue touch to your pond. It's also nice to see that you planned it all out so well that filter system is well concealed and doesn't distract from the beauty of your pond.

Happy ponding,

Great ponds and outside living area...think I'd just pull a bed out there and call it home  o(  You can wait on plants if you'd like, but it's not too hot to mail now and they help with your water quality.
