He's a fireman now + pix

Someone working with Kevin suggested Braeden might like to have a firetruck come to their house. Instead they arranged for the whole family to go to the fire house. Braeden and Ian Braeden and Eliana in a fire truck.

Kevin holding Braeden at the Spencer Township firehouse. Eliana is beside them.

A big thumbs up for the big guy!   O0  Nothing like touring a firehouse and sitting in the fire truck.  Even a grown woman like me loves it!!   lol  Looked like an awesome trip for Braeden and the family.  By the way, his eyes look great!!   O0 ;)

Not only did they give him a ride, they took him home in the truck. I don't know if one of his family rode with them or not.

He is doing amazingly well. His heart, oxygen levels, kidney and blood pressure seem normal. He is able to walk shakily with help while someone pulls his IV cart along. He sits up on the floor, no pillows, for periods of time while playing the Wii or watching a video. He is terribly skinny but isn't much interested in eating. It's like he wants to eat but when he tries, he just doesn't seem to get much past his lips. They are told he isn't hungry as he has the IV with nutrition running still. His hair is growing back and he's getting taller. They have decided to encourage him to exercise as he began saying his arms and legs hurt. They wondered if he is getting stiff from not much movement.

wow, great pictures of what must have been a fantastic time....and a ride home to boot, he must have been thrilled.  Yes a little excercise if he's up to it would be good and help with any mucsle atrophy that might be happening from all the time in bed.  He looks good.

I looked up the phone number of the fire station last night and left a message thanking them for their wonderful gift to Braeden and his family.

At first, Make a Wish was going to send the family to Disney in Florida but when it became apparent his health wouldn't hold up for a trip, they said to find something local or at home. Seeing someone had brought in a Wii about two months to the hospital and he and his siblings had played it, Kevin and Dawn decided to ask for one. Make a Wish said they could choose up to $1000 worth of games, a flat screen TV, and videos. So they chose a TV, some games, a wheel (for car or cow racing), two "senders" and a receiver. When MAW arrived two weeks ago today, they had a better TV than Kevin had picked out, more games, videos, and gifts for the other two kids + a wonderful dinner. We think this gift was better than the trip for two reasons, one is that this is a lasting thing that will give the whole family joy for a long time and the other is that because they didn't take the trip, it leaves more money for another kid to get their wish. Scroll down the threads posted by me and you'll see another thread about this. One was titled Wiiiiii.

Maybe I ought to bake some cookies for the firemen.

Thats was just too cool. I'm really glad to hear that he's doing well and had a good time at the fire station, that was a great idea.

I don't know if these guys are like most of the people at our fire station but they are all pretty much health nuts. They have to work
at staying in shape so they don't eat much sweet stuff. Fruit might be a better option. ;)
At our station, people will bring in donuts, cakes, cookies, etc. and most of the time they sit there and then end up
in the trash. However, if someone brings in a large bowl of grapes, a watermelon, etc. it will disappear in a flash. :)

Shanna, that firehouse is probably an hour and a half drive north of here and I likely won't ever get anything up to them. I did call and thank them.

One time Kevin set fire to a huge pine tree on the back of our lot when he was about 8. It was father's day and most of the volunteer firemen were at family dinners. They had to leave them and come to put out the fire. I was so upset with Kevin as he had "played" with fire before but didn't cause much damage. So we baked chocolate chip cookies the next day with me lecturing the whole time. I bet he was so sick of me going on and on. Anyway we took them to the firehouse and Kevin wrote them a letter thanking them and appologizing for his stupid move. Seeing he is 40 now, that makes it 32 years ago. Wow!! Maybe back then they weren't so health conscious but they were excited to get the cookies.

No Braeden doesn't really need anything. People have been so anxious to help over the last year and a half that they often bring him books, cars, videos, and other stuff. I will ask Dawn though if there is anything he would like. HE's one spoiled little boy. LOL.
